Put on the heavy backpack (8L/17.6 lb) and hit the steeps. Didn't have enough time to get all the way to the summit, so I just worked with what I had by emphasizing the steepest trails. Murphy enjoyed the snow and seemed not to mind our contrived route. I would get warm and sweaty headed uphill, then I would cool off and my hair would freeze headed downhill. I felt pretty strong and capable, but definitely working the muscles more than the aerobic systems (as intended). The snow was perfect for microspikes - like a firm carpet with a little more fluffy stuff falling the whole time. The flakes were huge. It was a great hike to be moving slowly and taking it in.
Still working on quantifying the effect of wearing a weighted backpack or vest. Sure, it increases the cardiovascular load, but it also works the muscles in a separate way, and that's the whole reason for the workout. TBD
